Are you a business who may be interested in helping a local sports club?
We are.
To give you some back ground my husband and I run a landscape gardening company in Pontypool, we sponsor the first team of Newport cycle speedway.
In August this year the two Newport clubs a long side Filton are to host the 2012 British finals weekend, the three day event will be  held on Saturday 25th Aug at East Newport Sunday 26th Aug at Filton and Monday 27th Aug at Newport.
This is a big event for the sport and area, last year Sky Sports televises the event and we are hopeful they will again this year.
As a business there are some great opportunity for you to help the clubs, local area and in turn yourself by ways of sponsorship, the whole event needs two main sponsors, one for the Saturday and one for the Monday the cost would be £1,000.00p per day there is also a programme of the events, with advertising starting at £65.00p for a full page and £40.00p for a half page. Sorry the centre page as already gone. One programme will cover all three day’s and track’s. There is an opportunity to have a sign put up at all three tracks covering the three days. We are also looking for grants and donations, and raffle prizes. At Newport track there will be stall's on the day again if you are a business that would be interested please contact me.
We would be very grateful if you could help in any way.
My contact details are below.
I thank you for your time.

With the last remnants of autumn here and winter coming in fast there’s not much to do in the garden, just a few little jobs like,
Clearing the falling  leaves, then thoroughly clearing the paving, dirty surfaces can be slippery when wet. We use a pressure washer.
Treat all fencing and sheds there’s also all the other timber structures in and around the garden, a good stain and preservatives will give them the protection they need for another year and cost a lot less then replacing it all. We do both if you haven’t the time.
Collect leaves and add to compost bin.

We check tree ties and replace wobbly stakes, double check your arches, pergolas and fences will they stand the winter winds?
Wrap large pots in polythene or Hessian sacking also if possible move to a sheltered position.
Tidy up unruly perennial climbers.
If snow falls this month (we had some last year at this time) knock it off evergreen shrubs and confers it can weigh down branches doing a lot of harm.
Plant tulip bulbs, cut down honeysuckle to encourage new growth.
You can take hardwood cutting this month from shrubs, roses, trees and soft fruits.
If you are lucky to have a green house use the opportunity when empty to wash inside and out. I’d use white vinegar in warm water.

Don’t walk on grass if there’s been a frost.
Store away hosepipes and insulate outdoor taps.
Tidy up the shed, wash pots, clear and tidy tools, you be please you had next year when you want to use these things.
Look after the birds with fresh water and food through the winter. Don’t forget to clean out the bird baths and refill with fresh clean water.  They need it.
Clean debris from ponds, place a small ball in the pond to help it from freeze over.

Don’t feed fish when its cold.
Keep adding to your compost pile, even leaves can go in or bag up to make leaf mould.
Dig over bare soil so the frost kills pests.
Order your seeds and bulbs for spring, plant bare-root hedges, roses, shrubs and fruit.
Make Christmas decorations from holly,  ivy, twigs allium seed heads, witch hazel, etc, etc.
If you are lucky to have some mistletoe in your garden cut and hang in a spot when guest will stop for a while (time for a kiss).
Light up your garden with Christmas lights and……….well that’s just a few of the things that can be done this time of year, so now I’ll pass the list on, hope you find the time to do them all, if not ring us.

Well its that time of year again, and no I don't mean Christmas, that's still a month away thank goodness.

I mean time to put the garden to bed for the winter.......or is it?

I'd like to share this with you.

We started this business early in February 2004 with one half of us not from a gardening back ground (guess who?), so learning as we went a long we did very well that first year then September came and one morning while having a morning break I picked up the newspaper and started to read the gardening page. it went on about last grass cut, cleaning and storing tools etc, and putting your garden to bed, so back to work and it hit me, I'd write to all the lovely maintenance customers that we had worked for that first year, so I set about it, thanking them for their customer and wishing them well with a hope they would all sign up with us in the new year. I got on so well I not only wrote all the letters but posted them as well. Boy was I feeling good about myself.

That was until his lordship came home, as per normal we'd have a cup of tea and go over what had happen thought out the day. so feeling very pleased with myself I told him, when he came down off the ceiling he told me in no uncertain teams that I would have to phone each and very one as he would still be cutting grass as long as it was still growing, and that there was lots of other things needed in the gardens he could offer our clients, didn't I realize that I had just closed our business down for the whole of the winter, what was he going to do? I didn't want to do it but I hit the phone, first I had to explain they would be getting a letter in the post and then that I had made a big mistake, I tried asking that they didn't read the letters but all said they would and most laughed. but we did keep all of them as customers and that year he kept cutting grass up to and including the week before Christmas.

I learnt two things that day, 1. No matter what time of year or the weather there always seams to be some thing to do in the garden and 2. Never believe everything you read in the newspapers.
